Info on the Volkssternwarte:  Volkssternwarte München (sternwarte-muenchen.de)

The AGBC returns to the Volkssternwarte München (Munich Public Observatory) for our second multimedia evening of astronomy. The Volkssternwarte is a hidden gem in the city of Munich, a place where the public can go to learn about astronomy, to explore the heavens in the planetarium, or to observe the night sky with the range of telescopes on the roof of the Volkssternwarte.

The evening will start with a general overview of the Volkssternwarte led by VSW member Paul Salazar and the VSW Team.

At aroumd 1930, we will split into 3 groups, and each group can choose to attend two of the three featured 30-minute activities:

1 – Planetarium for planetarium show by VSW Team

2 – Exhibition Room for general astronomy talk (asteroids, planets, solar system, etc) by VSW Team

3 – Lecture Hall for Solar Eclipse lecture by Paul Salazar (who is a veteran Solar Eclipse Chaser)

The late winter / early spring sky is filled with treasures such as Orion, Taurus, Canis Major, Gemini, Leo, and a wide spectrum of very bright and colorful stars, plus special treats such as the Orion Nebula and the Pleiades. And there will be a first quarter Moon and the bright planet Venus to highlight the night sky.

If the weather does not cooperate, we will move downstairs at 2030 where Paul will provide a spontaneous discussion on Mars or another topic.

Conditions of Cancelation: Please note that your registration and payment are considered binding. We are unable to make refunds. However, you may send a replacement to the meeting if you are unable to attend.

PLEASE NOTE:

There is a new entrance to the Volkssternwarte compared to last year . There are major renovations and the courtyard from Rosenheimer Straße is closed. It is only reachable via the Nordfassade.

If you drive there or arrive by bus or U-Bahn, you should enter on Anzinger Straße 13. You can drive through a Hof (courtyard) and there is a parking garage that is part of the Werksviertel.

If you walk from Ostbahnhof, you should enter through the Werksviertel or via Gisela-Stein-Straße.

More information is available here:

https://sternwarte-muenchen.de/baustellen-infos-2023/#bau-karte-0423

You should allow an extra 5 minutes to find the new entrance.

Once in the Hof, the building directly across from you is where the Volkssternwarte is.

At the entrance, above the name Qualcomm you can see the sign for the Volkssternwarte. Go inside and you will see the American-German Business Club banner at the elevator. Take the elevator to the American fourth floor (German third floor) – It says Sternwarte on the button. And you are there!
