AGBC returns to the Volkssternwarte!

The evening will consist of: 

• A welcome drinks reception and networking 

• A presentation by AGBC Member Paul Salazar (see below) 

• A tour around the whole facility including the planetarium 

• Rooftop access to the telescopes to see the moon and the stars (if the weather plays ball!) 

• Networking finger buffet and drinks either on the roof or in the main meeting room (weather dependent) 

Paul's talk this year is about us being in a decade of extraordinary advances in telescopes, both ground-based and space-based. The James Webb Space Telescope was successfully launched a few years ago and is changing how we see the early universe. The Vera C. Rubin Observatory is giving us an unprecedented view into the universe and discovering new objects daily. The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), an ESO project, should be online by the end of the decade, and possibly even the Giant Magellan Telescope as well, with light-gathering power that exceeds all telescopes that have come before.  

Paul will provide a glimpse into each of these amazing scientific instruments and dig into what we can expect to learn about our universe in the coming years.
