4 Questions  to Elif Canko

Elif joined AGBC Munich in 2026.

Q1: Tell us about yourself – how long have you been in Munich, what brought you here and what industry are you in?

I have been living in Munich for two years.  I am a mechanical engineer and I moved here for a career opportunity in the aviation industry, where I’ve worked as a design engineer for many years.

Earlier in my career, while working in the automotive sector, I travelled to Munich frequently for work, so the city, the language and the culture weren’t entirely foreign to me. (Though I admit I’d forgotten most of the language in between! 🙂 Moving here let me get back on track with my German.

Living in Munich has been both a professional and personal journey for me.

Q2: How did you learn about AGBC, what was your reason for becoming a member and why would you recommend others to join?

During my first year here, I was looking for an English-speaking community. As someone who had recently moved to Germany, I was interested in developing a network and becoming more involved in the local community.

I came across one of AGBC’s exchange events last year, which was very well organized, informative and welcoming. After attending several events and Stammtisch evenings, I decided to become a member of the club.

I would recommend AGBC because the professional and social interactions are genuinely enjoyable. It provides a very supportive environment to meet interesting people and exchange experiences. I also really appreciate how it brings together people from different professional and cultural backgrounds.

Q3: If you could choose one of the next AGBC event topics, what would it be?

I think it would be interesting to organize networking events with other American-German clubs in Germany, creating opportunities to connect with their members and business communities.

I would also enjoy cultural events focusing on literature or cinema.

Q4: What is your favorite spot/activity in Munich (or surroundings) and why?

Munich is such a green city, and I think this makes even ordinary moments quite enjoyable. I really like walking around without a particular destination in mind and discovering the different corners and textures of the city against this green background.

Thank you Elif
