4 Questions  to Karl Gruns

Karl is a member since 2002.

Q1: Since when do you live in/around Munich? What brought you here and what is your business?

A1:…I moved to Munich with my family from Rockford, Illinois in 1974. We came to Germany through a public accounting firm that is now known as KPMG, which brought us here and after four years in Illinois, marked the beginning of my professional career in Munich.

Q2: How did you learn about AGBC, what was your reason to become a member and why would you recommend to join?

A2: I first learned about AGBC in 2002 through Mark Summers, one of the first Americans I got to know in Germany. After becoming self-employed, joining the AGBC was a logical step, as it offered excellent networking opportunities and access to a broad range of business contacts.

As a one-person business, the Club allowed me the possibility to expand my services to existing clients and acquire new ones by collaborating with other members on a project basis. This flexibility made it possible to scale up resources when needed without the legal and administrative complexities of hiring employees. For anyone looking to grow their professional network and collaborate internationally, I would strongly recommend joining AGBC.

Q3: If you could choose one of the next AGBC event topics, what would it be?

A3:I have always particularly enjoyed the AGBC Exchange events. They provide a great opportunity to learn more about fellow members, their professional backgrounds, and the topics they are personally passionate about. I am always looking forward to the upcoming interactive exchange format in June.

Q4: What is your favorite spot/activity in Munich (or surroundings) and why?

A4: From around 1986 to 2010, I was very active in Munich’s recreational volleyball scene through the Bayerischer Volleyball Verband, at times playing on two mixed teams. Due to age and health reasons, I eventually shifted my focus to biking, which has since become my favorite physical activity.

As a spectator, I remain a passionate sports fan. Having played soccer, baseball, basketball and football in the United States, I closely follow FC Bayern Munich, as well as my hometown teams, the Chicago Cubs (baseball), Chicago Bulls (basketball) and the Chicago Bears (football).

Thank you Karl
