4 Questions  to Nate Hensel

Nate joined AGBC Munich in August 2023.

Q1: Since when do you live in/around Munich? What brought you here and what is your business?

Hello! My name is Nate Hensel, and I moved to Munich in August 2025 with my wife, Nina. We come from Arizona and relocated to Germany as part of a planned long-term move.

My background is in procurement (Einkauf) and supply chain management (Lieferkettenmanagement), primarily within manufacturing and technology-driven organizations. I have worked in strategic sourcing, category management, and supplier management across global supply networks. Prior to moving, I completed my MBA at Arizona State University, with a focus on supply chain management.

Since arriving, I’ve been actively getting involved in the local business community, exploring Munich, and working toward my next professional opportunity here in Germany.

Q2: How did you learn about AGBC, what was your reason to become a member and why would you recommend to join?

I learned about AGBC shortly after moving to Munich through conversations with members of the German–American business community. In particular, I was introduced to Larry Schulz very soon after arriving, and he was incredibly welcoming and helpful in getting me connected to AGBC and to the broader Munich business community.

My reason for becoming a member was to build meaningful, long-term professional relationships in Munich while gaining a deeper understanding of the German business environment. As someone with an American background who is actively integrating into the local market, AGBC felt like a natural bridge between the two cultures.

I would recommend AGBC to others because it offers more than just networking. The events are well organized, the members are open and engaged, and the club provides a welcoming platform for both Americans and Germans to connect, exchange perspectives, and support one another professionally and personally.

Q3: If you could choose one of the next AGBC event topics, what would it be?

I would suggest an event focused on Navigating the German Job Market as an International Professional. This topic is highly relevant for many AGBC members and prospective members who are building careers in Germany or considering a transition here.

The discussion could cover practical aspects such as German hiring timelines and decision-making, CV and interview expectations compared to the U.S., and how networking actually works in Germany, particularly how to build relationships without “selling yourself.” It would also be valuable to contrast career paths across startups, the Mittelstand, and large corporations, and to provide a snapshot of which industries are currently performing well, such as defense, versus those facing more challenges, such as parts of automotive.

A panel format with a recruiter, a hiring manager, and an international professional who has successfully navigated the process would provide well-rounded, practical insights and encourage open discussion.

Q4: What is your favorite spot/activity in Munich (or surroundings) and why?

One of my favorite spots in Munich is the Nymphenburger Kanal. It’s close to where we live and feels like a perfect retreat from city life. In the summer, I often go running along the canal, and in the winter it’s my favorite place for walks, sometimes even when the canal is frozen and people are out on the ice. Looking straight down the canal toward Nymphenburg Palace never gets old. It’s a beautiful balance of water, nature, and historic architecture, and it has quickly become a go-to place for me year-round.

Thank you Nate
