4 Questions to Naomi Isaacs

Naomi joined AGBC Munich in 2005.

Q1: Tell us about yourself – how long have you been in Munich, what brought you here and what industry are you in?

In England (my home country) I met a wonderful young man who got a fantastic job in Munich – so we relocated. We travelled by car, arriving in Munich at 1:15pm(13.15h) on Friday, 18th October 1968 – and stayed!

For 16 years I worked in a variety of companies before finally quitting to pursue my dream of becoming a jazz singer. During the 35 years that followed I travelled extensively as singer and above all as jazz-vocal educator, of which there were very few back then.

I have now retired from singing but continue to work as a coach, specializing in stagecraft, presentation skills and decision-making. My clients include business professionals, politicians and people from everyday walks of life.

Q2: How did you learn about AGBC, what was your reason for becoming a member and why would you recommend others to join?

In 2007 a friend invited me to join him at the AGBC to abend Roxey Lau‘s presenta’on on networking. This was my first experience of networking in an official setting.

I had always been a connector, but networking events were new to me. I immediately liked the atmosphere, the format and appreciated the opportunity to maintain my English.

The speakers and panel discussions are often really inspiring and the conversations afterwards lively and interesting. A great opportunity to meet people with whom I would never cross paths in my life as a singer/musician.

For anyone looking to gain a foothold in Munich, meet like-minded people and generally enlarge their circle of contacts, this is an ideal environment and I would encourage everyone to visit the monthly meetings. Maybe this is the place for you?

Q3: If you could choose one of the next AGBC event topics, what would it be?

1. Burnout and depression: These have become a major contribution to instability in the national and international commercial/business landscape – particularly in connection with the advance of AI and the imminent obsolescence of certain jobs. I think many members would appreciate some solutions for those who risk becoming redundant.

2) „Softskills“ as essential components in management, team-building and many aspects of business, professional and private life.

Q4: What is your favorite spot/activity in Munich (or surroundings) and why?

The countryside around Munich is stunningly beautiful.

In Munich the large beer halls and beer gardens were a fantastic discovery when I arrived  (though they were quieter and more “gemütlich” back then).

As a jazz lover, I recommend the Jazzclub Unterfahrt in Einsteinstraße which often festures international stars, and also the Jazzbar Vogler in Rumfordstraße – a very affordable hang with good music.

And for all newcomers to Munich: Try and do your sightseeing during the week (if work allows) because the city is often so crowded at weekends, that it is only half the pleasure.

Thank you, Naomi!
