4 Questions  to Benjamin Davis

Ben joined AGBC Munich in August 2023.

Q1: Since when do you live in/around Munich? What brought you here and what is your business?

A1: I have been living in Munich for over 20 years. In 2001, I met my wife in a dance club while I was on vacation here and it was love at first sight. After a year and a half long-distance relationship, I packed up everything and moved from Chicago to Munich and gave it a chance. Over many years, I built my own web development agency and now have offices in Munich and Magdeburg. Our most long-lasting and deeply integrated client is the ANTENNE BAYERN GROUP.

Q2: How did you learn about AGBC, what was your reason to become a member and why would you recommend to join?

A2: My first experience with the club was actually back in 2012, when it was recommended by one of my clients at the time, Gisela Rehm. I later discovered that another long-time client and fellow Midwesterner, Dan Norenberg, was also a member. This planted the seed, but I never joined. After COVID, however, I decided that, after a long period of not attending events and meetups, I wanted to check out the club again. This time, I was surprised to learn that my friend’s sister-in-law, Constanze, was now the president! After discussing it with her at a birthday party, I decided to finally become an official member in 2024.

If you’re looking for a genuine business network where people consistently attend events and give you a chance to really get to know them, this may be the club for you. My experience so far has shown me that the members are authentic, curious, and willing to listen. The events organized by the club are thoughtful, dynamic, and cover a wide range of interests. I leave each event feeling energized, and I’m now looking forward to dedicating more time to the club.

Q3: If you could choose one of the next AGBC event topics, what would it be?

A3: Many things come to mind. One of them is the importance of understanding psychology as a team leader. A major difference I’ve found between freelancing and running my own agency is the need for this understanding. I’m always looking for podcasts to help me learn how to be a supportive force within my team. Perhaps we could organize a panel to develop best practices or define the team leader’s role when employees are dealing with challenges like mental illness or depression, for example.

Q4: What is your favorite spot/activity in Munich (or surroundings) and why?

A4: My favorite activity in the Munich area is biking. I enjoy both riding my endurance bike on the long, winding roads with a view of the Alps in the background and the fresh mountain air flowing through my helmet, as well as riding my mountain bike on the trails around the Isar (though not right after a fresh rain). My next biking challenge will be going on a Bikepacking trip!

Thank you, Ben!
